China’s digital insurance revolution is well underway. Although Joe Ngai and Stephen Binder1 already provided an interesting insight into the current state of China’s insurance ecosystem, there are some questions that remain elusive. Specifically, • What digital insurance initiatives are unique to the Chinese ecosystem? • Are cultural undercurrents influencing these initiatives? • And finally, is there a ‘killer app’ that can be deployed to become China’s first truly digital insurer? These questions often hold the key to success for insurers operating in an environment of commoditized offerings and relentless competition.
