Moving towards a connected and sustainable insurance

The third edition of the Observatory on Telematics, Connected Insurance & Innovation on Thursday December 1st brings   a synthesis of a whole year of research involving 25 international insurance groups and other 20 partners from various sectors.

The think-tank was created with the purpose of studying the impact of the Internet of Things on the insurance sector and in order to stimulate discussion on this topic between various players.

In this last year the observatory has invested resources in order to deepen the knowledge and experience accumulated in the auto industry which is at the moment the most mature sensor use case in the insurance sector. In this particular insurtech segment the Italian market is an international benchmark having reached almost 5 million cars with black boxes at the end of 2015 which represents around 50% of the global market. According to estimates of the Observatory on Telematics, Connected Insurance & Innovation, the Italian leadership in motor telematics will continue in the coming years and will reach 13 million telematics insurance policies by 2020.

The opening session was focused on the results of the research conducted with the occasion of the recent AXA Forum 2016 followed by a round table with the participation of Axa, Sara Assicurazioni, IRSA, Portolano Cavallo and Neosurance – the Italian startup. Among other topics, the latest innovations in Italian and international telematics concerning benefits for both insurers and clients –  with the contribution of Ania and Swiss Re. The focal point of the day was technology as an enabler of innovation for health insurance with an analysis of client expectations and of new market opportunities.

With the occasion of the last Observatory on Telematics, Connected Insurance & Innovation session for the year 2016, Pietro Negri – senior legal advisor at Ania and CSR expert – has presented the paper “Connected and Sustainable Insurance”. The paper intends to represent the start of an international-level discussion about the great opportunity presented by the use of this technology in order to confer a new and virtuous role to the insurance sector within the society.
